Nepal reports first two cases of Omicron variant

6 DECEMBER, KATHMANDU In Nepal, the first two cases of humans infected with the Omicron strain were discovered. Two people, a Nepali and a foreigner, have been determined to have caught the novel coronavirus variety, according to the Ministry of Health and Population. The Nepali citizen who was found to have the variation is 71 years old, whereas the foreigner is 66 years old. The latter arrived in Nepal via plane, landing at Tribhuvan International Airport.

The international guest had shown a recent negative PCR report upon arrival and was properly vaccinated, according to reports. In addition, the Nepalese national had interacted with the guest. They both developed symptoms of the illnesses over time and were tested, resulting in a positive diagnosis. The S-gene target failed during testing, thus a gene sequence was performed, and the omicron variation was discovered.

A total of 66 samples from people who had come into touch with the two sick people were tested, with the findings coming back negative. The samples were all examined at Teku's National Public Health Laboratory. Both sick people are being held in isolation and are recuperating, according to the Ministry of Health. It went on to say that the people's health is in good shape.

Rupandehi's neighboring territories have been placed on high alert against Omicron.

To combat the infection of 'omicron,' a new strain of the unique coronavirus that causes COVID-19, high alert has been implemented in Rupandehi's surrounding districts. The decision was made at a meeting of the District COVID-19 Crisis Management Committee, which was chaired by Chief District Officer Rishiram Tiwari, according to Assistant Chief District Officer Bishwo Raj Marasini. He went on to say that a circular had been sent to the pertinent local levels, instructing them to maintain heightened monitoring in several bordering locations, including the Belahiya border post.

The local levels have been requested to keep an eye on foreign nationals and to give attention to raising awareness about the issue. Tourists from India, Australia, the Netherlands, and China all enter Nepal through the Behaliya checkpoint. Rajendra Giri, the Chief of Health Office, stated that they have instructed that mask and sanitizer usage be strictly enforced in surrounding regions, that they monitor whether or not they have received the full dosage of COVID-19 vaccination, and that they perform a quick test if there is any question. Omicron has been classified as a 'variant of concern' by the World Health Organization.
